What is TLW about?

TLW (The Lost Worlds) is about sharing an interest in Historical events and/or stories with Historical background.

The site is not about being 100% historically accurate, nor do we intend to become a database of extensive historical facts and events.

We merely want to provide a platform for people to entertain themselves and others in an informative manner.

Where can I find info on the books and the movies?

We are not associated with the author, the books and/or the movies, although we think they're fantastic!

We suggest you use any of the search-engines to search for: thelostworlds + book + movie

Where can I find info on the game?

We are not associated with The Lost Worlds, Legacy of Kain or Soulreaper, (the Games), but the game's website can be found [ here ].

How do I find a certain page, area, topic or entry?

We refer to the f.a.q. about adding/opening pages, areas, topics and entries.

Where can I find the sitemap?

The sitemap is located [ here ].

This link can also be found in the lefthand-menubar.

Can I link to a certain page, area, topic or entry directly?

If you know the id-number of that page, area, topic or entry; you can!

Just create a link like the following samples and replace <nr> by the number of the page, area, topic or entry.

[a href=link.php?page=<nr>]Page[/a]

[a href=link.php?area=<nr>]Area[/a]

[a href=link.php?topic=<nr>]Topic[/a]

[a href=link.php?entry=<nr>]Entry[/a]

How can I see where I am allowed to participate?

If you are allowed to participate, you will be able to see the [ add ] or [ edit ] links.

How can I add/open a new page, area, topic or entry?

See our f.a.q. about submitting pages, areas, a.s.o.

There are several ways to browse to/open a page, area, topic and/or entry.

You can use the menu-buttons in the lefthand-menubar to open different pages.

From each page you can click down into the structural-tree: first areas, then topics and finally entries.

If you know the name or number of the page, the area, the topic or the entry, you can enter that name or number in the quick-search field located in the righthand-bar and click the button next to it.

Else you can use our search-page to search with more advanced options.

Furthermore, you can add 'favorite' topics to your profile. These topic will appear in a separate dropdown-menu in the righthand-menubar.

How do I submit a page, area, topic or entry?

You will see an [ add ] link at the top of each page, area and or topic.

If you click on this link, a special submission-form will open and with this form you can submit the page, area, topic or entry.

Submission is subsequent, so if you're on a page, the form will submit a new area for that page, if you're in an area, the form will submit an new topic for that area, if you're in a topic, the form will submit a new entry for that topic and if you're in an entry, the form will submit additional comment for that entry.

How can I edit/modify an area, topic or entry?

You will see a [ mod ] link at the top of each area and or topic.

If you click on this link, a special edit/modification-form will open and with this form you can edit/modify the area, topic or entry.

Editing/Modification is consequent, so if you're on a area, the form will edit/modify that area, if you're in a topic, the form will edit/modify that topic, or in the post/entry-list or in a post/entry, the form will edit/modify that entry.

Because of incompatibilities with the editform and the posts/entries that have been made before Jun #1 2007, it is not possible to edit/modify these posts/entries, therefore the [ mod ] link will not be shown for such posts/entries.

How can I become 'owner' of a page, area, topic or entry?

If you have a good idea for starting a page or area, you can request this page or area be created for you by one of our Admins.

Once you're the 'owner' of such a page or area, you can create and assign area's or topics yourself.

You automatically become owner of an area, topic or entry that you've created yourself.

As the owner, you can assign Moderator or Editor rights to other members for this area or topic.

Why was the option to request a 'local' mailbox deactivated?

We could no longer guarantee the best of service for our 'local' mailboxes.

Therefore we had to decide to cease this (free) service to our members.

Some of our early members that obtained a free mailbox already, still will be able to access their mailbox and use their (exclusive) @thelostworlds.com emailaddress.

We just could not afford to maintain any more mailboxes than the fifty mailboxes we already have to maintain.

You can contact our administration team to see if or when a mailbox may becomes available, but changes are not likely to happen.

Where or how do I report errors/mistakes?

Use the contact-page to report any errors, incorrect facts or plain mistakes (typo's).

How do I submit additional information?

Just use the [ add ] or [ edit ] links where they appear in the entry to add or edit the entry.

Please note: there is a difference between the [ add ] link INSIDE the entry and the one at the top or bottom of the entry.

The first one adds comment at the bottom of the entry itself, while the other adds a new entry in the same thread/topipc.

Can I start a new story from scratch?

Sure! We even urge you to do so!

You can ask an Admin or Moderator to start a Page or special Area for you, or you can start your own topic (story) in an existing Area.

If you start a topic in an existing Area, do not forget to ask the Moderator, Editor or owner of that Area for permission.

(Usually, they will not deny such a request.)

How can I join an existing story?

Easy, just ask the assigned Admin, Moderator, Editor or Owner if you may join.

Many stories are open to all members, but we urge you to politely request permission first, before you join the story.

There may be a history there and you may not know all the ins or outs.

Once you've been granted permission, you can join the story freely.

Is there a maximum number of entries for a story?

No, the number of entries for a story are theoretically infinite.

However, for readability, we recommend a maximum number of 100 entries per topic (or story).

How many MBs of diskspace am I allowed to use?

By default, your home-space allows for 10MB of disk-space, which should be ample size to maintain your 10 home-pages.

How many home-pages do I have?

Each member has up to 10 home-pages.

By default, only one home-page will be displayed for each (new) member.

Via the [ edit ] link in the home-space, you will be able to add/edit your home-pages.

Can I use HTML-tags?

No, all HTML-tags will be automatically replaced by BB-code (with square brackets).

But you can use BB-code to replace the HTML-tags anywhere. Just replace the < and > characters for [ and ].

Example: if you want to make a piece of text look bold: replace <b> and </b> for and .

This works for all HTML-tags.

The BB-code will be automatically translated to HTML-code when the page is loaded by the client.

Is javascript allowed?

Javascript is allowed on your homepages, but not recommended, as it will slow down your pages.

Is php-scripting allowed?

No, we do not allow PHP or VBS scripting in entries or home-pages.

We have special vars you can use in your BB-code.(with the square brackets)

Can I link to other websites?

Yes, but we strongly advise against it.

Linking to other websites not only drains resources from both our and the other website, it will also lure people away from TLW.

Linking to other websites is only allowed from your homespace and only if the target is a new, blanc page.

How can I upload images for my homepages?

You can upload images for your homepages by using the [ upload img ] link in your home.

There is a 1Mb (1024Kb) size limit per upload.
